It was my first time to Paris and there wasn’t really any good information as to where the expo actually was. If you search online, you won’t be able to find the address of the place, but it’s right above the metro station – Porte de Versailles.

How to get there: There are many ways to get there via metro, bus, taxi. I’ll give you directions how to get there by train.

Leaving from Metro station: Charles de Gaulle Etoile
Destination Metro Stop: Porte de Versailles
Metro lines (mo): green M12

There are 2 options:

Option A:

Take ‘1′ line – destination Chateau de Vinciennes
Off at Concorde
Take M12 destination Marie D’Issy
Off at Porte de Versailles

Option B:

Take ‘6′ line – destination Nation
Off at Pasteur
Take M12 Destination Mairie D’Issy
Off at Porte de Versailles

Once you are out of the train station, you can’t miss it. It’s the building with all the flags. There will be a huge blue banner that says “Paris Marathon Expo”. Anyways just follow the crowd of other runners. If you are really lost, just ask someone. 99% of the people there understand english. The 2010 marathon expo was in the very last building.

Oh, they also gave us pretty cool plastic tank top look alikes to keep us warm prior to the marathon. Race morning is pretty cold so this helped a bit.

The past weekend I ran the first out of country marathon in Paris. The whole expierience was quiet different from marathons I’ve ran in the past, but then again, I haven’t run that many. I’ll give you a review of the whole process.

The Paris Marathon is quite large, hosting just over 40,000 runners with 8000 of these sports are reserved for travel agencies and other elite runners. So, keep that in mindwhen you look at the runner registration counter ont he front page of the marathon. To get a discounted marathon rate, register before the count gets to 22,000. The Paris Marathon is NOT a lottery based system. It’s first come first served. This marathon sells out in less than 2 months, so book fast.

After registering for the race there is no info package sent to you. There is no confirmation letter or letter to tell you your bib number. Your confirmation is updated on their website and you’ll see your name in their database. Don’t forget you need a doctors’ note to run the marathon.

The Paris Marathon does send out plenty of email reminders leading up to the race day. If you’re a female runner and interested. I received an email from Asics looking for a female representative of the race. Don’t really know how it worked but you could submit yourself to be THE face of female runners for the Paris Marathon. This is your shot at fame!! lol.

Back to the doctor’s note. You can either mail it in or bring it with you to the marathon expo when you pick up your race kit. ALso before you go to the Marathon Expo, it will be handy if you know your runner #. If you didn’t remember to write it down (like me), the information desk can always help you find your bib number.

I want to lose weight in the new year. Exercise and dieting will be my #1 goal. Getting off the couch and start shedding the burgers, casseroles, chips and chocolate pounds I’ve gained during the winter hibernation season will be tough but doable. I have to set a goal further into the year so I can continuously train for it even after my marathon. So, I’m looking into purchasing a bike and get more involved in cycling, running and swimming during the spring and summer seasons. I want to train up for a triathlon, get my face wet in a lake. Hey if all those girls can do it, so can I! Are you up for the challenge? I’ll have to find a better bike instead of my rusty 20 lb mountain bike.

Losing weight by dieting is important just as exercising is to keep the weight off and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Diets are hard because they restrict food and being a vegetarian, I’m pretty limited in my food choices. Making leaves taste good will be a struggle, as it is already but I’ll try to eat more salad, tomatoes, and all those power fruits like berries, apples and grapes.

My most favourite piece of my running outfit is my balaclava. I got this a while ago from my brother to use when snowboarding but one winter blustery ice rainy day I realized that hat could be a great addition to my winter running gear. It’s stayed with me since. It is important to purchase a good balaclava for running to protect the face from the cold wind and maintain warmth. There is a lot of moisture that gets into the hat from the sweat you generate. Accumulation of your body heat plus your breathing mixed with the outside elements gets you one frozen mouth piece. So usually when I complete my runs, my balaclava would literally be a block of ice, well my Balaclava is a fleece one. SO in saying that, I would recommend if you live in a really cold climate to invest in a good balaclava. One that wicks away the moisture, warm but not too heavy, allows you to breathe freely and not fleece.

Dryline BalaClava is from the Running Room. It provides great protection against the elements. You can wear sunglasses or a visor underneath the balaclava. It also fits close to your skin, has mesh area for your mouth so you can breath and the hot air doesn’t get trapped in your hat. This will keep you warm when running in the winter.

Dryline Headband from the Running Room is if you’re not into the full head coverage. This headband will draw perspiration from your skin to the garment surface, keepingyou warm and dry while running. This covers your forehead, ears and back of your head.

I would get the Windpro Bandana to combine with the Dryline Headband to protect your neck, chin and from getting chapped lips.

Remember to take your balaclava off before you walk into any store, they might think you are there for other purposes besides getting a refreshing drink……Speaking from experience….

Are you crazy? It’s dipping into the -10c and you’re running outside? I find it hard to continue running in the cold weather. There are so many excuses and the frigid weather makes it very easy to skip a run or two in your week. Of course the common excuses are – it’s dark out, it’s freezing outside I’m going to get sick. Although I can’t help you with your thoughts, I can give you some tips to help you stick to your running schedule and remain sick-free.

Shirts – Dress in layers. Typically I would wear a wicking long sleeve to wick away the moisture from my skin. If it is really cold outside ie -10c I would add a light fleece on top to insulate my body from the cold weather, and then top it off with a light windbreaker jacket. Depending on the temperature I would add or remove a fleece layer. Usually runners should dress for weather that is slightly warmer than it is. You should feel slightly cold when you walk outside. If you are warm when you walk outside, then you need to remove a layer. You don’t need to worry about getting sick, you will generate a lot of heat and sweat when you run and your body will get warmer.

Pants – Usually I wear running pants that have a thermal interior and a dense outer shell for wind, snow or rain protection.

Head and hand accessories – I always wear my running cap to keep the snow out of my eyes and to block the wind. I found that if I ran without my cap I usually get a headache afterwards. If it’s really cold outside or snowing I wear my bellaclava to protect my face. For my hands, I usually have really warm hands so I hardly use gloves. But on the extremely cold days I turn to my Nike running gloves.

Accessories – If you run in the evenings, make sure you remain visible. It’s hard for drivers/cyclists to see you at night and hard for you to see the road. One advice is to stay off the roads although it’s tempting when you see the are roads clear. The roads might be icy or snow on the ground and makes it hard for vehicles to stop. You can buy a light to attach to your running belt or jacket so drivers/cyclists can see you. You can buy or attach reflective strips on your clothes.

Finishing your run – If you run don’t stop and if you do stop don’t start again. You’re clothes will be wet from your sweat and you will be sweating so if you stop in cold weather you will definitely get sick. Make sure you keep moving.

Slow down – The sidewalks and roads are slippery. Keep your strides short and low. Don’t try to race down a hill. Run with your feet lower to the ground to reduce the risk of slipping, falling or straining muscles.

In the end, have fun and enjoy the beautiful scenery. When fresh snow falls it really feels like you are running in a winter wonderland.

On April 11, 2010 is the Paris Marathon. The marathon does not have a lottery system, it’s on a first come first serve basis. The Paris Marathon is pretty popular. They max at 40k runners and when registration opened in September it sold out in less than 2 months. The spots are distributed as follows, 37k for PUBLIC registration on their website and 3k RESERVED for event partners and overseas travel agencies. The marathon prices increase to the final price tier when there are only 5k PUBLIC spots available. Don’t be fooled when you see their website. They post a real time tally of how many runners are registered and when I signed up it was at 33k. I expecting to pay at the second price tier but actually paid at the final. I felt like they tricked me into paying more! Anyways lesson learned, if you want to sign up for the Paris Marathon at a lower price, remember to sign up before registration hits 32k and sign up early.

Just going back to the previous note, I know the marathon is sold out for public registration but if you still want to try to get into the marathon there may be a way through travel agencies in your country. MarathonTours offers gauranteed acceptance if you pay for their travel package and include an extra $195 USD for the marathon. Here’s their link. For other countries check out here.

I mapped out the new Paris Marathon 2010 Route. The city is extending their Tramway and required construction on one of the routes of the marathon specifically Boulevard Soult. Here is the new marathon map that I mapped out on mapmyrun. Who said you can’t see Paris in one day.

The marathon starts at the Champs-Élysées and runs by the Place de la Concorde, Louve Museum, Hotel de Ville, Place de la Bastille, Chateau de Vincennes, Notre Dame Cathedral, Orsay Museum, Eiffel Tower, Grand Palais, Trocadero and finishes back at the Champs-Élysées.

True Running Editors’ Review>

I lost my Garmin Forerunner!!! I’m so fustrated because I can’t find it. The Garmin was an important part of my workouts. I used it everywhere I went. I used it for spinning, hiking, swimming, ultimate, snowboarding and of course running. It stored 40 hours of full run history and data in my watch. I didn’t even get to upload my run data before I lost it! So, anyways, you should upload your data frequently. The old run data is automatically deleted when memory is needed to store data for new runs. The reception in the suburbs is great. I had no problems when running on trails. The only problem was when I was in the city and surrounded by a lot of buildings did I have problems catching a signal. It’s a great training tool. The Forerunner 305 shows pace, distance, calories, and heart rate all while running. It’s a definite buy for serious runners. So this post is for myself and for you if you are looking to buy the Garmin Forerunner 305. I did some research on prices and will keep the post updated if I find any great deals.
